JAK Branding x William Frederick
Logo Design | Branding
William Frederick is a Black-owned streetwear brand that brings awareness to the public education system and the educational inequality/disparity between disadvantaged students and their relatively advantaged peers and how this dynamic is parallel between private schools' and public schools' quality of education.
The identity system for William Frederick playfully, imitates the traditional logo design for a private school —the use of reefs, regal crest, and specific wording— to emphasize the education disparity further. Private schools traditionally are housed in big beautiful classic infrastructures, and sometimes that infrastructure is incorporated into the school logo. With this same idea in mind, the building in the logo is the Cabrini Green Projects, a now-demolished public housing building on the north side of Chicago. The colors navy blue, cranberry, maize were used to reiterate legacy, tradition, knowledge, and a preppy style.
